Erin Mc Evoy is currently undertaking a study assessing the exposure of young people to gambling marketing through sport on the island of Ireland with a particular focus on the border counties.

The study is known as ‘Fair Play? Assessing the exposure of young people to gambling marketing through sport on the island of Ireland’ (YouGaMSI). This project is across both Maynooth University and Ulster University. In addition, they are also working with two charities (Gambling with Lives and Extern) throughout the duration of the project.

The research group are recruiting participants from the Dundalk area. The research group would like to conduct three focus groups which are broken down as follows;

  1. 6 to 8 people who identify as male/female/non-binary aged 14 / 15
  2. 6 to 8 people who identify as male/female/non-binary aged 16 / 17
  3. 6 to 8 people who identify as male/female/non-binary aged 18 – 24

Anyone can take part provided they watch any sport at least once per week via any media (social media platforms, live streaming, television broadcasts, in-person etc).

The study can be completed at a time that suits the participants e.g. before or after a training session for example.

Further information on the study is attached above.
