Roche men’s senior team maintained their Intermediate status with a 4-14 to 2-7 win over Naomh Fionnbarra on a wet and windy night in Darver. Paul Grier’s men deserved winners on the night after a dominant second half display started the game tentatively and having kicked seven wides in the opening half went in at half time level five points all, with 2 points a piece from Mark Byrne and Barry O’Hare and one from Glen Stewart. The second half saw Roche start with more endeavour and their direct play was soon rewarded with 2 points from O’Hare and a great team move started by James McDonnell finished up with Stewart finding the corner of the net to put 5 points between the teams a lead they never looked like losing, further points from O’Hare (2) Mark Byrne, Stewart and the evergreen Kevin Callaghan along with a sublime chip from Shane Byrne which nestled in the back of the net had Roche 2-12 to 0-7 in front going into the last quarter, but all credit to the men from Annagassan two quick fire goals reduced the deficit to five, a period which also saw the Roche net minder Jamie O’Hare prove his worth with a couple of excellent saves. However up stepped Mark Byrne with goals either side of points from Stewart and Peter Lynch to close the game out. The win was built on the foundation of an excellent performance of the fullback line of Joe Bishop , Dermot Carthy and star man on the night Harry O’Connell.
