The U14 girls were unfortunate to see a lead slip in the final quarter as they came up short in Philipstown on Monday night.

A hat-trick of goals from Zoe Treacy inside the first quarter had Emmets in front for a period of the contest, though a late rush from the hosts turned their deficit around.

Ffion Dolan gave a player of the match display in the full-back line, while the half-backs battled throughout with centre-half Martina Kirk even racing forward to score a goal.

Ava Briscoe and Kayleigh O’Hare did well in midfield – Briscoe brought her scoring boots too – while the Corcoran cousins, Evanna and Sophie, gave it everything in the half-forward line, either side of the always industrious Erin Gorham.

Roche were badly hampered when Caoimhe Dunne, who was outstanding last week, had to leave the pitch with an injury and with an already reduced panel it was too much of a hill to climb for the girls.

Roche: Mollie O’Callaghan, Ffion Dolan, Erin Roe, Nicole Murray, Evanna Corcoran, Martina Kirk (1-0), Aoibheann Reilly, Erin Gorham (0-2), Rhiannon Dolan, Kayleigh O’Hare (0-1), Ava Briscoe (2-4), Sophie Corcoran, Courtney McNamee, Zoe Treacy (3-0), Erin Grier, Caoimhe Dunne, Amy McKee, Cara McCourt, Ceola Keenan

Referee: Liam O’Neill
